In the Marble Hall of the Library of Foreign languages yesterday opened the long-awaited exhibition of caricaturists from the city of Plovdiv. The special guest of the ceremony was the famous Bulgarian artist Irien Trendafilov.

The exhibition "Together" are presented 60 personal works of three Bulgarian caricaturists - Irien Trendafilov, Nezhna Filipova and Tsocho Peev. The exposition is part of the First Moscow Festival for ironic graphics and cartoons, organized by the Guild of caricaturists of Russia. Guests of the ceremony welcomed the head of the Exhibition Centre BIL Tatiana Feoktistova, the director of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute Pavel Vasev and chairman of the Guild of caricaturists Andrey Ryzhov.

The caricature as a genre it is a child of the modern era, although there are known earlier caricatures created in ancient Greece, in the era of the Renaissance (Leonardo da Vinci), and in the reign of Louis XIV. However, the true popularity of the caricature had the appearance and distribution of the newspaper.

The authors of the caricatures are people with acute social sensibility. To be successful, they require an exceptional artistic skill, of course - a sense of humor, intelligence, and finally, the ability to catch the main event of the day, the situation, even a moment. They are the peculiar chroniclers of the time and all the events taking place around us.

The thing that the three artists have in common is that they are all from Plovdiv - a city with rich cultural traditions, which was deservedly elected European cultural capital in 2019. Another unifying factor was the love to "caricatures without words." With it, they can 'talk' on any topic with, multilingual people and "see" the problem, as it cannot be described with words. All the artists use clear and clean line, rarely resorted to ink, they prefer schematic forms thus achieving sharp features of the character or the scene with the one they work.

Each of the authors enchants with its personality: Irien Trendafilov follows one of the Plovdiv's traditions of the image, splitting the movement into phases and collecting them later in a special rhythm - so, similar to comic books, comic story appears. In the works of Nezhna Filipova there is a lot of poems and philosophy. The carefully drawn lines and the emphasis on the detail is her way of communicating with the world. Tsocho Peev offers us his "little stories" without words as a variant of the theme of individual perception and expression with the help of virtuoso possession graphics and innovative artistic methods. In his works every detail bears a meaning, and the story is clear and easy to understand.

Each piece of the Bulgarian caricaturists makes us think, causing anger and smile, and compassion. And each one brings another batch of laughter that makes the world better.

The exhibition will be open until January 28, 2016   Free admission.
