On 19 May, by invitation of Bulgarian Compound in Moscow, starts the concert tour in Russia of the Academic Choir of Theology Faculty of Sofia University "St. Climent Ohridski".
This unique choir - an undisputed phenomenon of Bulgarian modern culture, as well as one of the brightest and most interesting collectives in Bulgaria, will have several concerts in some churches in Moscow and Moscow region dedicated to the memory of Saints Cyril and Methodius. Furthermore, the choir will take part in the International conference "The Slavic world" organized by the Moscow Theological Academy. The choir will perform in the traditional arrangement in the Embassy of Republic of Bulgaria in honor of the Day of the Bulgarian Education and Culture and of the Slavic Alphabet.
The repertoire of the choir consists of orthodox chants - the best examples of the Orthodox song tradition. A fairly large part of the compositions were written specially for these singers. The collective performs classical examples of folk and author's choral music of different countries and times.
The choir regularly takes part in worships, concerts dedicated to Christian and National holidays, National and International festivals. It publishes CD.
Within the last six years the collective has had performances in Serbia, Macedonia, France, Russia, Italy, Austria, USA and Japan with a great success.
The conductor of the choir - Mrs. Elitza Hristova, is a Master of Music and Theology. She has also completed a PhD in Church performing arts.
With the choir constantly works Mr. Georgi Popov whose works nowadays are popular in the Bulgarian theatre and cinema. His compositions have won prestigious international awards more than once. Since 1994 Mr. Georgi Popov writes Bulgarian Orthodox music actively. His chants sound in performance of a number of Bulgarian and foreign collectives on world's leading scenes.
